HISTORY OF
CARNEGIE ACCORDION COMPANY
Carnegie Accordion Company, LLC opened in February 2016 and is owned and operated by Grammy Nominated Accordionist, Kevin Solecki. Carnegie Accordion serves the Greater Pittsburgh area and beyond, specializing in new and pre-owned accordion sales, repair, and lessons.
Kevin Solecki was born and raised in Warren, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, where he grew up immersed in the rich musical traditions of his Polish heritage. Like many ethnic families, music played a central role in family gatherings, which often took place at fairgrounds and church festivals—vibrant settings where local bands showcased their talents. Kevin fondly recalls watching accordionists perform at these events, dreaming that one day he would take the stage himself.
Encouraged by his parents and inspired by those early experiences, Kevin began taking accordion lessons at the age of six through a local music store. He quickly developed a natural affinity for the instrument, and as the years passed, his skills progressed steadily. Word of his talent soon spread throughout the community, leading to invitations to perform at a variety of local events, including senior centers, church functions, birthday and anniversary celebrations, wedding receptions, and even appearances on radio and television. Before long, his hand-me-down accordion could no longer keep up with the demands of his growing performance schedule.
As Kevin’s musical journey continued, he and his family sought an instrument that would match his developing abilities. This search led them to Castiglione Accordion Company, located just a few miles from their home. At the time, it was the largest accordion store in the United States. Visits to the shop became a memorable part of Kevin’s early development, and he formed a lasting relationship with owner John Castiglione, eventually purchasing several professional instruments over the years.
Inspired by the vibrant accordion community he encountered, Kevin’s passion for the instrument only deepened. He later joined the nationally recognized Pennsylvania-based polka group, The Polka Family Band, as a full-time accordionist. After relocating to the Pittsburgh area, Kevin spent the next decade touring and performing across the country. In the ten years that followed his time with the band, he focused on building a successful solo performance career.
Throughout these years, Kevin was frequently asked where aspiring musicians could purchase accordions, obtain repairs, or find accessories. Recognizing a need within the community, he and several colleagues decided to create a business that could serve as a reliable resource for accordionists of all backgrounds. That vision became Carnegie Accordion Company, located in Carnegie, Pennsylvania—a suburb of Pittsburgh.
Kevin maintained strong professional ties with John Castiglione, sourcing accordions and accessories at wholesale cost to better serve his growing customer base. Following John’s passing in 2020 and the subsequent closing of Castiglione’s store, Carnegie Accordion Company has remained committed to continuing that legacy—providing quality instruments, dependable service, and ongoing support to both active and aspiring accordionists across the country.
As Carnegie Accordion Company celebrates its tenth year in business, we look forward to connecting with you and helping keep the tradition of accordion music alive for generations to come.
